Yoshimura Progress 2 Oil Temperature Gauge – Woodstock Mount Bracket

This is a post about parts available in Japan. Woodstock offers a dedicated mount bracket for the Yoshimura Progress 2 gauge. Given Yoshimura's popularity, various other manufacturers also sell parts compatible with it. Woodstock is a company based in Hiroshima, Japan.

I have it installed on my CBX1000 as well. The price is about twice as much as similar products from other manufacturers, but it offers a more stylish, polished look compared to ones that are simply stuck on with double-sided tape. I chose the Woodstock mount bracket because I had something specific in mind, and its quality feels worth the higher price.

I’m using the Woodstock mount bracket because I wanted to attach it near the handlebar with a ball joint. It’s highly functional, though the cost-performance isn’t great. Thanks to the ball joint, angle adjustments are easy, and the arm makes switching devices simple. Since the oil temperature gauge is securely wired to the motorcycle, it’s not suitable for quick swaps. However, it’s perfect for easily swapping other devices, like a GoPro or smartphone.

The strength is sufficient even when tightened by hand, which is impressive for a freely movable arm of this type. Personally, I prefer having no additional gauges between the rider and the main meter. Naked-style bikes tend to have cluttered handlebar areas, so I aim to keep the meter area as streamlined as possible.

I made some modifications: a smartphone holder on the left, an oil temperature gauge on the right, and a dash cam positioned under the oil cooler. I consolidated the aftermarket devices in the lower left and on the left handlebar.

I moved the gauge to just above the oil cooler on the left side. Now, when I'm riding and want to check it, I simply look to the left. If it were just the Yoshimura Progress 2 and the smartphone holder, the previous setup would have been fine. However, I installed the air-fuel ratio gauge in the center because it's crucial to monitor it closely while riding.

When I switched to the fairing setup, I installed the gauges inside. In my opinion, it’s more aesthetically pleasing to keep additional gauges hidden from view. Recently, I’ve been considering placing the dash cam under the seat. While having it in a visible location is nice, I only rarely interact with the touch panel. It might not be necessary to force it into a position where it’s highly visible. Initially, I had planned to use it more like a backup monitor, but I rarely check it while riding.

About the arrangement of the gauges.

Gauges that are frequently used should be positioned near the center of the rider's view. It's essential for the speedometer and tachometer to be in a highly visible location. If you're using an air-fuel ratio gauge for tuning the FCR, it should also be placed where it’s easy to see. During test rides for checking the main jet, it's not feasible to turn your neck to look at the gauges. In a naked-style setup, the wind pressure makes it difficult to move your neck as well. Gauges like the voltage meter, dash cam, and oil temperature gauge aren’t meant to be closely monitored all the time. The arrangement of the gauges is something that should be carefully considered.

I experimented with various setups while considering the placement of the Yoshimura Progress 2 gauge. Using a bracket allowed for a quick relocation process. The number of devices installed on motorcycles today is different from the past. Older motorcycles typically didn’t have the clean look we see now. Devices like ETC and dash cams can be made portable with battery operation, and, for example, they could be mounted on a helmet. However, due to stability concerns, it’s recommended to mount them directly to the motorcycle.

I used the Woodstock mount for the Yoshimura Progress 2 to try out three different setups. Honestly, the best placement I found was inside the fairing, as it’s less noticeable from the outside. Keeping it discreet is ideal. If I make any further modifications, I’ll be sure to post about them.
