FCR – Once you have installed Quick turn throttle, change the tuning accordingly

Is a quick turn throttle necessary or not?
The answer depends on the rider's preference.
However, by installing a quick turn throttle on your motorcycle, you add one more thing you can do.
You can open the throttle fully with just one twist of the throttle.
This is not possible without a quick turn throttle.
It is not necessary if the original machine characteristics allow you to easily operate the throttle up to full opening.
A quick turn throttle narrows the throttle opening.
It can be a disadvantage if you are participating in competitions that require a lot of low throttle opening.
Everything has advantages and disadvantages.
The more you can do, the more difficult it becomes to do other things.
By installing a quick turn throttle, it has become possible to open the throttle extremely quickly.
Currently, the bike is tuned so that it cannot keep up with sudden throttle openings.
In this blog post, I will write about tuning that takes advantage of the quick turn throttle.

Easy to open the throttle!

I introduced a quick turn throttle to allow the throttle to be opened fully.
There is no need for a quick turn throttle, which is difficult to operate at full throttle.
Until now, I had to squeeze the throttle again before reaching full throttle.
It has become easier to check the tuning for each throttle opening.
It is great fun to be able to open the throttle fully with a single throttle operation.

The first thing I noticed was that the accelerator pump was malfunctioning.

It's not long before you notice something is wrong.
It may take a while to realize that there is something wrong with the accelerator pump.
It would be more accurate to say that the way the accelerator pump is used has changed, rather than that the accelerator pump is wrong.
In the case of my CBX1000, the throttle opening changed
from 90 degrees to 56 degrees.
This is nearly double the change.
If you operate the throttle in the same way as before, you will end up opening the throttle almost twice as wide after the change.
The accelerator pump is controlled by the timing when the discharge starts and the time until discharge ends,
so the same accelerator pump timing cannot be used.
The way the accelerator pump is used has completely changed.
If you operate the throttle at half the speed, it will be the same as before the change.
However, you cannot operate the throttle like that.
You will need to re-tune the accelerator pump.

Overall tuning review

The overall tuning has been revised taking into account how the throttle is moved.
The acceleration pump has been turned off.
The acceleration pump was not turned off before the throttle was changed.
The tuning is overall richer than before the throttle was changed.

The result is that throttle operation is very fun.

The motorcycle now accelerates with momentum.
Throttle operation has become a lot more enjoyable.
Since it is a forced opening and closing carburetor, it is natural that throttle operation becomes more difficult.
It feels like fuel economy has gotten worse and operation at low throttle openings has become a bit more difficult.
It is a lot of fun to be able to easily twist the throttle all the way to full opening.

What is the proper throttle opening?

Although it depends on the characteristics of the motorcycle, checking the following can be very helpful.

For current models, it's about 70-80 degrees.
As you can see from the table at the link, it depends on the characteristics of the vehicle, but about 70 degrees is an easy throttle opening to use.
And the racer Ducati has a throttle opening of 55 degrees.
The current throttle opening of my CBX1000 is 56 degrees.
It's pretty quick. I can understand why the tuning is not working properly.

And the throttle that came with the CBX1000 FCR kit is 90 degrees.
With this, it's difficult to turn it all the way to full throttle in one movement. It feels like there isn't enough wrist movement to fully open it.

And even with a narrow 90-degree throttle, I don't think there is much difference in whether the throttle is light or not. However, it feels easier to operate the throttle compared to 56 degrees.
My CBX1000 has a 44-pi throttle.
In my opinion, the appropriate throttle opening is about 70 degrees.

FCR for beginners – Is it necessary to change the throttle?

It's not particularly for beginners, but when trying to determine whether it is necessary or not, make sure that the throttle valve is fully open.
Changing the throttle and switch box by installing an FCR is essential if the throttle valve does not open fully when the throttle is fully opened.
Some people may be daunted by the amount of modification and changes that are required.
Changing the FCR clearly changes the ride feel, so changing the throttle will not immediately make a difference.
The look around the handlebars also changes, so preferences vary.
If you ride an older motorcycle, you will also be concerned about the switches.
Think carefully before making any changes.

FCR – Once you have installed Quick turn throttle, change the tuning accordingly【summary】

Looking at the changes on the CBX1000, it seems certain that a review of the tuning is essential when the throttle opening is changed from 90 degrees to 56 degrees.
The throttle isn't something that gets changed very often.
Changing the throttle is an item that makes a big difference to the riding feel of a motorcycle.
I hope this is helpful for anyone who is curious about the maximum throttle opening.
See you again!
