I took some photos of my CBX1000 right after it was renewed. In these photos, the brake system has been upgraded from the standard setup to Brembo parts. The front forks have been re-chromed, and the springs replaced with Hyperpro ones. The bike’s current specs differ a bit from what you see here. This time, I'm just sharing the photos.

Custom and Full Custom of CBX1000

Please consider "custom" as referring to modifications.

The CBX1000 is an old motorcycle and falls under the category of Japanese Classic Motorcycles. There are more original-condition motorcycles from this era than one might expect. They generally look in good condition. However, when it comes to their condition, most of them are in need of an overhaul. Even if you buy a motorcycle new, it is nearly impossible to keep it in its original condition. It's normal for motorcycles to have some degree of custom modifications.

Replacing low-performance, worn-out parts with high-performance aftermarket parts is also considered a custom modification. For example, changing the rear suspension to Öhlins is one such modification.

In my CBX1000, I have replaced worn and degraded parts with aftermarket products. I don't want to ride with parts that have poor performance or that I can't trust the quality of. My customizations are meant to maintain a look close to the original.

There are many ways to customize a motorcycle. When you set a theme for your custom work, you end up with a good balance of color and performance in the design.

In the case of my CBX1000, even though it's called a custom, I have completely disassembled and rebuilt the engine. There's no part I've left untouched. It’s more accurate to call it a restoration or overhaul than a custom.

What does "full custom" mean? Does it mean everything is customized? I believe a "full custom" motorcycle refers to a bike where, in addition to the wheels and paint, it has become a completely different motorcycle from its original form. If the wheels have been replaced but the original paint remains, it would not be considered a full custom. A full custom is when the appearance has changed drastically.

Moreover, tuning the engine is part of a full custom. If the performance is improved but the appearance remains close to the standard, it’s not a full custom.

When determining if a motorcycle is a full custom, the wheels are the key. If the wheels have been changed to aftermarket special parts, it is very likely that most of the bike has been heavily modified, making it a true full custom.

Place
Bayside Beach Saka

One of the spots in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, where people gather to take photos or ride motorcycles is Bayside Beach Saka. As of May 15, 2020, there are no commercial facilities at the site. Perhaps because of this, while it cannot be called a lawless zone, there are many instances of reckless behavior with vehicles, including motorcycles, which has become a local issue.

Other visitors include surfers, couples on dates, and fishermen, among others. During the summer, the area is opened as a public beach for swimming. Due to poor motorcycle manners, measures such as closing the facilities at night and police conducting muffler noise checks have been implemented.

There is no facility manager on site. Due to excessive behavior regarding noise, litter, and water use, the location has made news on occasion. Please be mindful and careful if you plan to visit.

Take plenty of photos of your motorcycle. It will be helpful in the future if you make detailed notes about the dimensions and specs when you customize it. If you upload them to the web, it can serve as a reference for others who are also customizing their bikes.

These notes will also be useful for your own future modifications or upgrades. And, of course, it will be a great memory.

See you again!
